Chapter 8.

So I have finished Chapter eight, and I was flabbergasted of how Steinbeck had meticulously described Tom Joad's family and their reaction when his family saw hi, after four years in jail. What do you guys think?

  2. Well most of his family asked if he escaped from jail, and they were very surprised when they saw him. Overall they were glad of Toms homecoming .

  3. I think he did a good job at portraying a family's reaction to the early release of Tom because he wasn't expected to be out yet and a parents first reaction might be that he broke out of jail since his sentencing shouldn't have been over yet.

  4. I thought their reaction was very natural, given the time frame and setting i suppose. Seems to me feelings weren't spoken aloud so they way his parents reacted sufficed enough. Maybe it was just the way Steinbeck writes because in scenes like this i find everything everyone does very natural.
