Remember the prison Joad was kept in? I did some research, and it turns out there really is a McAlester prison, in a way. Oklahoma's state penitentiary is in McAlester, so most people just refer to it by the city name. Makes me wonder if there are other locations in the story that actually exist.
Yeah if you keep reading in one of the chapters someone starts ranting about a bunch of cities and mentions McAlester
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that the author did it for a strong reason as most of these places are from Steinbeck's travel experience and he wanted to exemplify the realism into the story.
ReplyDeleteI truly believe Steinbeck did his research for his book to make it a reality. He did a great job at doing that.
