Was anyone else a bit surprised on how Tom spoke so easily of his doing ? If it would have been me driver telling the would have been a bit reluctant to share it.
I felt the same way but perhaps he got annoyed or bothered that the truck driver asked him if he had a job and all. Also i didnt catch up right away to why it was that he didn't know much about his father and it was because he was in prison right?
I found it interesting and amusing; it was as if Tom wanted to leave him shocked despite the circumstances of tom's crime. He didn't explain himself, instead he made himself seem like a cold hearted murderer.
Agreed! He spoke of it as if he had done nothing wrong. It seemed as if he was saying he killed a fly. It made me question Tom's character, but perhaps he was trying to make a statement.
His killing a man made me raise my eyebrow in interest when I read it. I did not expect it. I think it was a way that allowed Steinbeck to make Tom a dynamic character.
Later on in the chapters Tom i believe talks to Jim Caset about not feeling guilty at all for the murder of that man iremember him saying the man was a good man but he really acts like he feels no guilt . Which i thought was something very intresting

ReplyDeleteTome was quite blunt of it, but you could tell that Tom was annoyed with the driver. The driver kept asking him questions to get specific answers.
