I honestly do not consider myself to be a transcendentalist because i believe that all men are naturally evil.A transcendentalists humanist thoughts are powered by selfishness and greed which would lead to no good. I agree more on Thomas Hobbes philosophy that a authoritative figure like the government must be set to keep people away from their greed. I'm not a full Hobbien believer but im definatley not a Transcendentalist.
I don't consider myself one though i do agree with some ideas of transcendentalism."Absolve to yourself, and you shall have the suffrage of the world..."(from self reliance).I agree with this thought i think that this is how people should be in society.Imagine how much more we could get done.
Same with me I can easily agree with these ideas but I'm not one that would consider myself a transcendentalist however, I know that if we actually applied these ideals to the general society then it would most likely improve societies around the world because there would finally be a mutual understanding among nations. I imagine that societies that embraced this would be united in understanding the world through nature and therefore would have to work together to achieve any notable results, so it could lead to peace between countries that have long held grudges against one another.. Any thoughts on this?
I think that any religious or philosophical belief system, not just transcendentalism, if embraced by all societies in the world would bring peace between different nations because there would be a correlation, or sense of unity amongst mankind. I agree that nature is a very powerful force and has the potential to bring peace because the Earth is something that every single person in the world can relate to.
I understand what your saying but don't some belief systems promote hatred of other races, religions, and personal beliefs. Wouldnt it be better to have a belief system that promotes only peace of mind and the importance of the individual?
I'm really not sure if I am or not. I agree with almost all of the transcendentalist ideas, however, I don't agree with the idea of not going to church to find God. I believe that you'll find God anywhere, even in nature; but if you can find him in nature, you can certainly find him in church right? I think it's just a matter if you are searching and reaching out to God that matters whether you find him or not. It's not about what you do, or where you're at, or who's with you. If you are reaching for God, he will be there with you. That's what I believe.
