I did think that it would have ended differently. At first, i thought that Proctor was going to be able to do something to stop all the hangings and that people would finally realize that the people that were being accused were innocent. Later on, when Proctor was accussed, i thought that they would have released him and would have punished Abigail and the other girls instead.
I liked the ending, but it sorta hit me by surprise. I was under the impression that Abigail and the girls would have been punished for what they were doing, or at least one of the girls wouldve fessed up.
Given the ulterior motives of the characters along with the insensibility and hysteria of the time, I would have been surprised if it ended any differently. It makes sense that the ending is ludicrous and tragic. Plus, what is Miller trying to say through Proctor's death?
I think it would have ended differently only because I didn't think that Proctor would confess and end up dying .

ReplyDeleteI was caught off guard one of the last things i expected was for Proctor to be accused.
