The Philosophy of Transcendentalism

Transcendentalism's core belief was the inherent goodness of both nature and most especially people. Also, they wanted to understand a religion but not by its practices rather it's definition and reasoning. They believe religion was a main aspect of a corrupt individual. So, my question to you is the following: Is religion really corrupting oneself or a society and its nature.

  1. I believe religion is corrupting thyself due to its regulations well as its guidelines in many regions to not question God or the world.

    1. Well I don't necessarily think religion is corrupting itself, but more the people who are utilizing it to do wrong are corrupting it. If you think about it, the clergy in the past are the ones who have perverted religion, which is why many people today are so secular.

  3. I agree and disagree. I mostly agree with what Pam said. Religion is an ideal, made into a tool by the individual. But corruption of religion is not derived from god's infallibility. God is the idea of perfection, something to strive to be. To question god's infallibility is to question an entire religion. Religion is a beautiful thing, created to better yourself and others. But as with everything, it has been diluted, misused, manipulated, and corrupted over time. You should not look to the fundamental beliefs of religion for corruption. If anything that is the purest aspect of it still remaining. Instead look to those who practice religion. Those who make it an excuse for every thing they do. Those who look to only gain from the use of religion as a tool. They are the ones who corrupt religion. For religion is an ideal standing for one thing. It can be interprated and practiced in different manners. But the fundamental beliefs can only be born corrupt, not made so.
