Thinking about Christmas, how is the character Christmas different/similar to the holiday Christmas? Also, do you think he matches the holiday, Christmas or is the character emblematic of something about the holiday, Christmas?
Christmas is cold, like the weather around the holiday. Besides that I don't think, he matches the holiday Christmas very well. Christmas is rarely there, just like the holiday comes once a year.
ReplyDeleteChristmas is very distant from everyone and the irony is that the holiday Christmas brings people together. He is far away from similar to the holiday. He's more like that grumpy old man who dislikes Christmas for some resentment he has toward Santa or something. :P
ReplyDeleteAgreed, it’s very ironic, considering how anti-social and how he isolates himself from everyone, which contrasts completely from the actual holiday.
DeleteChristmas is a holiday for everyone to come together and he is cold and distant. However, Christmas is a religious holiday as well and can be connected to Joe Christmas because Friday is a special day for Christians as well so this sort of connects the dots to his characteristics but I may be wrong, this is what I foreshadow.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I don't believe Joe's Christmas has religious ties at all because of McEachern’s devotion to christianity and his need to torment Christmas with his beliefs. When people are treated with such disdain, is hard to believe them, especially if they relentlessly berate you.
DeleteChristmas is a holiday that everyone celebrates together, but the character is not close with anyone. His personality definitely matches the weather because he's cold. However, I believe that since the holiday is a time of give and receive, I think other people might learn something from him or vice versa.
ReplyDeleteI think they are quite different. Christmas is a time full of joy, love and togetherness. The character Christmas is quite isolated in the society and is in no way full of joy. The only similarity they might have is that Christmas happens during the winter hence it is cold and the same can be said about Christmas, the character.
