Self- Relaince

In the poem of "Self Relaince" by Raplh Emerson the poem relates to a world of transcendentalism due to a reasoning of questioning God and the society that we live in. Furthermore, into the poem we as readers notice a mentioning of the great minds such as the following: Socrates, Luther, Einstein, etc. and how they're misunderstandments from society transformed into a way of life which we take for granted.

  1. "He is wisest who knows he knows nothing" - Socrates. To add to your point, this idea of questioning everyhthing is not a form of disrespect. It is a natural state, which every human has, yet ignores the older they get. Socrates belived in questioning everything, that's what made us wise as children. That is why as children we were happier, less satisfied with an unquestioned rule. As time goes on, peoples curiosity dulls. We lose interest in our unique ability to question. Humans are unique in their self aware, and are thus unique in their ability to question. I believe that is why transcendentalism, and many other philosophies urge us to question.
