Why does Chillingworth so desperately want to know the name of Hester's secret lover? Do you think Chillingworth wants to do more than just meet him? The way he acted and the way he spoke around Hester gave this chilling and evil feel. I think he's hatching up a scheme towards Hester and her lover. What do you think?
I think chillingworth is the only character who isn't predictable. It'll be interesting to see what he becomes, because I think he's broken. He was trying to find a way to be normal and settle down, and he looked to hester as his chance to be normal. Now he has literally nothing to loose. He's completely alone, and that makes him a huge threat. Because if he lets his revenge consume him, he can be far more villainous than he was in the prison. I think chillingworth wants to be the reminder to the father( who I believe is the reverend). I think he wants the reverend to never forget what he's done, and suffer from his own shame like he said hester should. So maybe chillingworth will confront the reverend then go to church and remind him by being there.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree.
DeleteI agree with Chris, he is a unpredictable. I think, based on the way he was acting, that he has something planned or is planning something.
ReplyDeleteHe is a unpredictable character*
ReplyDeleteYes he is an unpredictable character but his vengeance will only be internally rather than physical because no one would hurt a reverend right? The answer that is no? Disagreements?
ReplyDeleteI think Chillingworth would hurt Dimmesdale physically if he wanted to, I don't think he cares that he's a reverend. I do agree with your statement that his vengeance is internal because he wants Dimmesdale to suffer, he wants him to live with the guilt, if he killed him then he'd be doing Dimmesdale a favor.
DeleteI could understand why he wants revenge. What wife/husband would not want to hurt the person that they got cheated on? I know that I would at least want them to suffer the way I would have. Although it isn't the correct thing to do (Chillingworth wanting revenge), it is understandable.
