Were you disappointed that Jim and Laura did not end up together? I felt like it was a good learning experience for Laura and I think he was there to help build her self-confidence.
It's a hard way to learn, but she has to find out that there are people like Jim. So i think its good experience, if she ever tries to find someone again.
I agree Briana, Jim was there to give Laura a sense of hope. It sad they did not end up together. Jim taught her about self confidence, and showed her a glimpse of what love is like.
I actually was disappointed at first because she was finally connecting with someone. Overall though, it was good that she met him because he helped her build confidence.
True, I think she felt disheartened that Jim had a fiancee, but i don’t think she’ll be as sad as living without her brother Tom after he had left the family.
I agree that what Jim did was "Good" for Laura. Like Mrs.Ross said that he probably did it for her because he kind of sensed that she might never be kissed. However I also feel like Jim did this because he is full of himself. Like throughout the last scene Jim kept looking at himself in the mirror.
Nice observation Adam, I actually did not notice that. I was disappointed in Jim though. He knew he was about to be married and even though he felt like he was helping Laura, he was only hurting her more.
I wonder if once Jim is married if he would cheat on his wife because if he did that to Laura what will stop him from doing something similar to his wife.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree Pam. He was created for the sake of giving Laura a sense of hope that maybe she has a chance to marry someone. But not Jim of course :(.

DeleteI agree with you Goodness. I could interpret that Tennessee Williams included Jim in this story only to serve as a symbol of hope in Laura's life.
