The dietician's name, as mentioned when Christmas was 5 and in the orphanage, to be 27, was Jezebel. (Faulkner 123 and 132)
When Christmas meets the waitress, he is 17. It states that "She is a waitress in a small, dingy, back street restaurant in town. Even a casual adult glance could tell that she would never see thirty again." (Faulkner 172)...When the waitress found out Christmas' name she did not react the same way most have when they find out his name, and when she finds out he is half and half, she stops meeting him...
We then find out in Chapter 9, that her name is also Jezebel, and she was recognized by McEachern. (Faulkner 204)
Is it a coincidence that these two girls have the same name and McEachern knew them both?...or are they one in the same?
Because if my calculations are correct 27-5=22+17=39...and "she would never see 30 again."
The dietitian's name wasn't Jezebel; that's just what the man called her because she was secretly sleeping with the doctor. Neither was the waitress' name. Both women (the dietitian and Bobbie) were called Jezebel and they both did play significant roles on shaping Christmas' character.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Christian. I don't think math really has any significance here, although it is an interesting point.
The math has no relevance to this but i do agree both are of significance to Christmas's character. Like Vanessa said the dietitian were called Jezebels that is not their names.
ReplyDeleteYou have an interesting point about the two woman in Christmas's life however, their names weren't Jezebel that is what they were called. Honestly, I am a bit confused with the math equation you used as reference. I believe it has no relevance, but if you are willing to clarify that point that would be helpful.
ReplyDeleteWhen The dietician was 27, Christmas was 5, so 27-5=22+17 ( because that is how old Christmas was when he was engaged with the waitress)=39 and the waitress' age was described as she would never see 30 again...so she was over 30.
DeleteNone of this makes sense.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't see the relation. Yes, McEachern called Bobbie Jezebel, but that was because he knew that she was a whore. McEachern specifically told Joe to never go there again because McEachern knew what the diner really was.
ReplyDeleteAlso, why would the dietician work in a diner?
It doesn't seem likely that there is any relation between the two.
This doesn't make any sense because you go all over the place and there isn't really a connection. Also Jezebel is another word for harlot or "slut" so Bobbie's name is not also Jezebel.
