Yeah I agree, we as human beings see our Parents and others as virtuous and good role models. When our role models do not meet our high exception of them, we lose faith in them. If Dimmesdales sins came out, he would lose the popularity of the Townspeople. They hold him to be such a holy man, that the revelation of his secret will cause him to lose his everything. When the people we look up to don't meet our standards, that only shows that they are human. Humans are not meant to be perfect, yet our society holds certain people, such as celebrities, as flawless.
I can agree at some point. I do believe that we look up to leaders, parents, and authorities with high standards but, don't expect them to be invincible. I have viewed my mother as a role model before. I look up to her as a model that has overcome many mistakes and have grown to learn from them. Honestly, I never expected my mother to be perfect. I never expected high standards from her. All I expect is that she does her best in what she does even if she does fail at some point. As well as authorites and leaders, we are all human. We all make mistakes.
I agree, when you have such high regard for somebody you picture them as perfect. When people's idols don't meet their expectations or mess up huge, people are disappointed and hurt. I agree with tonda though that we are just humans and we make mistakes, but we just see some people as untouchable or on a different level; i think thats why we have such huge expectations.
That is true. We are all humans and I think we forget that when a person we admire does something wrong because like you said we see them as untouchable and perfect.
I agree, we have this perfect image of our leaders that it would be disappointing to have that perfect image shattered but it's also good to know that they, as leaders, are as human as us and can guide us to the right directions.
True, although our leaders are held to such high standards I think it's advantageous to be represented by an individual who does not consistently make mistakes, but by a leader who takes ownership of the mistakes they have made. In society today, we put our leaders on a pedestal of high standards, so when they slip up they are completely shamed. I believe it is very hypocritical for people to hold leaders to such unrealistic standards because no one is perfect. In The Scarlet Letter, Hester Prynne experiences similar scrutiny, the community is held to these ideal standards, so when Hester misrepresented them, she became shunned and despised. Later on, Hester soon realized she was not the only one who deserved a letter on her chest because there were others who have sinned as well.
I agree with that statement, it is very true that when someone we admire disappoints us we get hurt. We expect that certain person to not do anything that is below our standards or disappoint us because we admire them. Then, when it does happen our perspective of them changes and we then don't see them the way he once did.
I agree, but sometimes we can't always get hurt by the things that our leaders do. they're humans like us and they make mistakes like us and they're also growing and learning new things, just like us. ever heard of the term "you learn something new everyday"? I mean, I don't know who said it but its true, everyday there is something new to do, or a new mistake to make. but we learn from it and that's what makes us human.
Yeah I agree our leaders are human like us. They are not perfect and humans should not hold other humans as perfect. If our idols show their flaws, that only means they are humans.
I agree with this statement. We all hold to high regard our parents, teachers and people in authority so much so that we forget they are human and are also capable of mistakes. Once they make an error we are quick to judge them or jump to conclusions without seeing it from their point of view. We need to be more understanding sometimes even to our peers.
