We learn in chapter 13 about Miss Burden's pregnancy, and how she was pressuring Christmas into marriage. We also learn that Miss Burden tries to shoot Christmas, and he kills her in self-defense.Do you think Christmas's actions were justified? What would you have done if you were in his position? What do you think will happen to Christmas? Do you think Christmas will ever find happiness
I think Christmas was just protecting himself and it was in the moment and I don't know how would've reacted if someone tried to kill me. I think Christmas will be able to find peace maybe if he is caught.
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree, Christmas was just defending himself from Miss Burden. Christmas's actions were in self defense. If I was in that situation, I think I would try to defend myself.
DeleteI think Christmas action were justified in the sense that he tried to defend himself. When someone is trying to kill you or shoot you , your first reaction is going to be to protect yourself .If I was in Christmas shoes I probably would have done the same because I wouldn’t of let someone shoot me, I would protect myself however I can. Personally I don't think Christmas will ever find his happiness.
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree, his actions were in self defense. Miss Burden tried to kill him, it makes sense he reacted the way he did.
DeleteI think that Christmas's actions were justified because he was only defending himself. He was not just going to let Miss Burden shoot him; no one would do that. If I was in his position I would have ran or started crying if someone was trying to shoot at me. Unlike Christmas I wouldn't have been able to kill someone even if it was in self-defense. Also, I don't think Christmas will ever find happiness.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I probably wouldn't have been able to kill someone back also, but Christmas's actions were really out of self-defense, especially in that dangerous situation.
DeleteI agree Roxana, personally i wouldn't be able to kill someone even if it was for self-defense either. His actions are justified and I believe it's too late for him to find happiness. The only thing that seems to satisfy him is killing people.
DeleteI think Ms Burden's death was clearly self defense. Christmas was only trying to protect himself. However, this is not the way the society will view it and i can't help but wonder if there was another way for Christmas to diffuse the situation and protect himself without killing her. Maybe he wanted to kill her or maybe it was just in the spur of the moment and he wasn't clearly thinking about it
ReplyDeleteI think the same, maybe he did want to kill her, I mean after all do you think he really loved her?
DeleteI don't think he truly loved her. Although I believe that Christmas would not kill a pregnant woman, unless he was defending himself. Christmas only hit McEachern because he was tired of the abuse and McEachern provoked him.
DeleteI can agree with everyone because it was an act of self defense. He didn't know what Miss burden had in mind and didn't quite know things would go bad and she losing her life.
ReplyDeleteI think Christmas's action were justified. Miss Burden was pointing a gun at him and he wasn't just going to stand there and wait for her to pull the trigger. He reacted the best way could to save himself.
