Today we opened a discussion about racism/segregation and how it is still relevant to our society. It still continues and what is worse is that some negative views of racism haven't changed throughout some parts of the human race. What do you guys think about race and what are your opinions about it? What do you think should change?
I think the idea of race and racism itself is what society created. No matter what we do, we cannot escape racial prejudice. I think that we are all human, but differences alienate us. Whether that be race, sexuality, body type, physical appearance. I do hope that one day racism will dissapear, but I think that will not occur until the distant future. I think that people should be more accepting of other races, you cannot avoid seeing other races in America.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, that racism was created by society. I think we are all the same despite what how we look or who are. However, there are people that do not think the way some do; they do not accept other people for who they are. I think this should change but I don't think it will because there will always be people who do not agree.
DeleteI agree with you Goodness. Hopefully the idea of race will soon disappear.
DeleteI agree. In my opinion, the only race that should matter is the human race because that's what we all are. However, instead, people discriminate others based on how they look.
DeleteRace is just a label to me, it is just a way for people to be in power or find some way they are better than someone else. There is a lot to change, but it might be to late. It is a part of our everything now, we see it everywhere and there's a certain stigma to different things and it is very polarizing.
ReplyDeleteYes. Racism has caused a lot of segregation and distance through out a lot of people. Maybe everyone will soon realize that we are all the same and they will leave the idea alone even if people are born with pigmented skin or not.
DeleteI agree, I do believe racism has ties to people's perspective of superiority. For centuries color has differentiated the masses whether we like it or not , we are judged by the amount of pigmentation in our skin. luckily, race it is only a social construct that will continue to persist in our society for a long as we allow it to because race is not biological, but before we can rid ourselves of racial classifications the real question we would have to answer is: How deeply rooted is race in our society?
DeleteI also agree with Goodness that society created racism and that no matter what its not going to stop. I hope one day it goes away because we don’t need that in our world but I don’t see that happening because there's always a race that feels that they have power and that they are on top of every race and with that still going on, racism is never going to stop .
ReplyDeleteYeah. I understand what you mean. There will always be a race that will think of others being inferior to them. I can see the idea of racism going way in the future but not in this generation.
DeleteI think today's society stays within the past and how racism was a big thing. The world is not perfect and we will all not agree on some things but sometimes we as humans go based on appearances and put that as the cause for some of problems of the world. Our children are taught to treat everyone the same and be respectful but those who are teaching it aren't applying it to their lives. Racism is not within us it is taught to us. The beautiful thing about the world is that there is many of us and we all teach each other love in many ways. What I believe that should change is the way we continue to blame color for the problems occurring. We are not a color, we are human beings with the same organs and living in the same world where God placed us. Love and acceptance towards each other is the key. Accept individuals with their flaws and don't judge them because of the actions of others who happened to come from the same land they do. What people from our culture do doesn't define each and everyone of us. We are humans not a color or race or some type of species. We all deserve a chance to be treated with respect and given a chance to be heard.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Brianda. Race is truly just a social construct taught in order to subdue a set of people probably because of the need for power or control. It is not something we are born with but imposed on us as we grow up. The only way to move past it is for us to accept and love our differences because that is what makes us unique. Being able to identify with the human race as the only race with diverse cultures is the only way to move past the idea of racism.
DeleteI believe it's an idea that was created for others to not only feel better about themselves but also to have high authority. Not only is that wrong, but it's dividing us it's not going to lead human progress to anywhere good. As many of you have said, it's a social construct. Instead of being united with our neighbors we are being divided because of this foolish idea. I agree with all of you and it's up for our generation to change that.
