Joe Christmas's change

So far about what we know about Joe Christmas, why do you guys think he is suddenly rebelling against his "dad" and the things he had prohibit him?

  1. I think now that he's older he can stand up for himself and they can't send him back to the orphanage and when he was younger he was always scared of being sent back

    1. I agree he's older now and has nothing to fear since he's seems capable to take care of himself.

  2. I agree with you Selina, now that he is older he isn't scared to stand up for himself. Before when he was small he could easily get hit for standing up for himself. Now he can simply just hit his "dad" back.

    1. Roxana, it is interesting that you put "dad" in quotation marks. Do you think Mr. McEachern should not be given this title?

    2. I don't think Mr McEachern should be given the title of a dad. He is more of a strict teacher always giving instructions and punishments without really worrying about Christmas' welfare

  3. I think now that he is older he's just going through that part of life where he is finding some parts of himself. Now he can also defend himself or fight back against his dad.

    1. Yeah I agree, Joe is older, his dad cannot treat him like the orphan he adopted many years ago.Joe is tired of always getting hit, he is eighteen, he wants to be treated like an adult.

  4. I agree with all of you, and I believe McEachern does not deserve the title "dad" because a father does not discipline their child in a abusive way like he does to Christmas.
