As we see, so far, Christmas is a character that is serious and obscure. With that, these characteristics continue to become a part of his life however, who is to blame for why Christmas remains to stay this way? Is it McEachern's fault for imposing so much on him or is it himself that keeps himself restricted?
I believe Christmas is the one to blame for the way he is. He closed himself in a circle that didn't allowed no type of affection or motive to enter his life. He decided to isolate himself and become a reflection of Mr.McEachern. One is in control of who they want to be no matter the environment or relationships they're in.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Brianda, even though McEachern does have a part of this, Christmas decided to make these decisions.
DeleteI believe that it is Christmas' fault because he hasn't let go of the bad things that has happened to him. The first step of living a happy life is letting go of what holds you back from it and Christmas hasn't done that.
ReplyDeleteIt's maybe both. I feel because of how McEachern treated him, caused Christmas to never show a bit of emotion in fear of seeming weak. It can be partly his fault for not letting go as Brianda and Marvelene have said. But it's doesn't mean he does it on purpose: He was raised in the wrong way without love or any kind of affection. Causing Christmas to act unintentionally violent when he finds a "lover" of sorts.
ReplyDeleteI agree Briana, it is both of their faults. McEachern treated Joe so harshly, that it psychologically affected him. While Joe can let go of the pain he faced by all while he was a child, it will always affect him. Being raised like he was, is not right and can damage anyone's spirit. Joe is also looking to survive, so he might also be cold because he does not feel secure in his basic needs.
DeleteI agree Briana, Christmas is responsible for the way he acts but Mr McEachern has undoubtedly had a lot of influence on him. Ranging from the way he talks to the way he addresses women, it is clear that Mr McEachern has has an impressionable impact on Joe, probably more than he would like to accept.
DeleteLike Alexis said, McEachern does have a huge impact on the way that Christmas acts. Take religion for example, Christmas fears it because of the way it was imposed on him.
DeleteConsider Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs in your response.
