A Conclusion

"It is a curious subject of observation and inquiry, whether hatred and love be not the same thing at the bottom." (Hawthorne, 213)

What is your opinion of this quote?...Is there a fine line between the love and hate? or are they relatively one in the same?

  1. I did not say they were the same,I was asking if you think they could be...I think there is a fine line between the two, and that they can contrast each other so much so that they seem to be opposites. I also believe one would not exist without the other.

  2. I think that love and hate are very similar in the sense that it takes the same kind of dependence on another person to be able to establish a relationship based on such a powerful emotion. That quote continues, "Each, in its utmost development, supposes a high degree of intimacy and heart-knowledge." I've never thought of it in such a way but I think Hawthorne brings up a really interesting point.

    1. You pretty much stated what I wanted to say (applauds).
