"Love, whether newly born, or aroused from a deathlike slumber, must always create a sunshine, filling the heart so full of radiance, that it overflows upon the outward world" (168)
I chose to post this quote because I feel it shows the power of love. How one emotion can change you completely, inside and out. Do you believe love can change you?
Christian, i agree that love doesn't truly exist, but the thing is people make it real, and allow themselves to be consumed by it. So people can be change by something that they let into their mind, body, and soul.
ReplyDeleteChristian and Marcus... You say that love doesn't exist. How do you distinguish things between existent and nonexistent? I could see one argument being, "well you can't see love." My favorite quote from A Walk to Remember goes something like this, "Love is like the wind, you can't see it, but you can feel it." I don't believe that it's an emotion that people, "allow themselves to be consumed by", but it's like a plaque or a sickness, once you're exposed to it there's a chance that you'll inadvertently catch it.
ReplyDeleteThe medical definition of the word emotion is, "An intense mental state that arises subjectively rather than through conscious effort and is often accompanied by physiological changes." I believe that love absolutely fits into this category, because as you said, "it's something indescribable that the human mind is exposed to in situations" (which is the same as saying that it's something that's "subjectively" there). Therefore, love is an emotion. I agree with you that it is difficult to define what love is, but why do you think that is? Perhaps because every individual has a different perception of love that is shaped by their personal experiences?
