Running away

I find it hard to believe that the story will end with Hester, Dimesdale and Pearl living happily ever after. I feel that they are running away from their problems by choosing to flee to Europe. I believe that Dimesdale will never truly be free until he admits to the whole town of his sin.

  1. I want to believe that Hester, Dimmesdale, and Pearl will live happily ever after in Europe, but i have a feeling that they won't. So maybe your prediction is right Jorge, or what if turning your back on your problems will actually help you live a better life?

  2. I think turning your back on your problems just makes matters worse. If you think about it, usually when you flee from problems they either find their way back to you somehow or they become worse. The reason i say this is because if you constantly avoid facing your problems then you're always going to think about it or end up hiding from it. What are the benefits of that? I want Hester, Pearl, and Dimmesdale to be happy, but in reality there's always going to be some problem they are going to face. Especially with a secret as big as Dimmesdales.

    1. I agree with Breanna that it isn't possible to turn your back on your problems without suffering consequences. We see in Dimmesdale that harboring a big secret will result in self-destruction. As for that happy ending of Hesther, Pearl, and Dimmesdale where they run away together... I agree with you guys that it's probably not going to happen (unfortunately).

  3. Maybe the reason why Hester chose to stay was to pay her dues as a sinner. Now that she's ready to move on it only makes sense toove away. I would agree that the happily ever after story isn't possible, although it is important to move on.
