McCarthyism
Dictionary.com defines McCarthyism as "the practice of making unfair allegations or using unfair investigative techniques, especially in order to restrict dissent." Do you think that this is a normal human reaction in times of terror to impose this on the people around you? Or is it a political technique to gain more power over lives of the citizens? Is this similar to the events of 9/11?

I think this is done by the government in order to keep people who speak out against them quiet. It is done in times that the government's actions become questionable and when people do question them the government may use this technique to gain power over their lives and what they say.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Diego that government uses this method to justify its undemocratic solutions to problems that it faces and the majority of people do believe them because the government can suddenly provide a representation of the threat they are facing and no one can challenge them because the community will assume that they are affiliated with that group. I also think that people naturally feed this process and that the government profits off of it because people naturally turn on each other trying to fix the problem in their own way even if they have to create a bogus solution. This is exactly like 9/11 the government just changed their label from communist to terrorist simply because communism is barely hanging on and also we know it eventually fails altogether. Terrorist however can be easily applied to people because its associated with a religion and a certain ethnic group.
ReplyDeleteI think its a natural human reaction due to the fact that whenever something bad happens beyond our control, we need something to blame. We need an explanation. The government in return takes advantage of that and gives us the object to blame things on.
ReplyDeleteI think it has become a natural human reaction in order to obtain closure by blaming someone or something else, like Janeth stated. I also agree that the government takes advantage of the average citizen, but I don't necessarily agree that the government gives us the object to put blame on because everyone has there own opinion of what that someone or thing is, even if they are given an idea.
