I know understand the title of the book fully now. It all makes sense now; all the wrath that there is from the people in the towns of California. They could have been farmers that lost their land and now these families from out of state are coming in and taking what little work they could possible get. These families know how the "Okies" feel because they are just as hungry as them and they both are looking for work and that is hard to find.
I too had a light bulb go off in my head when discovering that the Grapes of Wrath represented the emotions felt by these people due to the near impossibilities of finding a job, and dealing with hunger.
ReplyDeleteI dont believe the wrath came from the emotions but the all the hardship faced to reach said grapes which symbolize work and prosperity. The name cleverly contradicts its self considering grapes are a symbol of work in the book and wrath retains its universal meaning and by putting them together he demonstrates the phrase in chapter 12 "there will be instances both of bitter cruelty and life-affirming beauty"
