A Woman's Dignity!

"terrified, but coming erect, striving for her authority: I'll not stand whipping any more!"

Thinking about our newly found character, Mary Warren, what are your initial thoughts on who she is? Also, think about woman during that time. What's so significant about her?

  1. I think it's great that she's finally able to to stand up for herself because it must have not been easy and taken plenty of courage because women during this time had no power or authority.

    1. She is very brave for taking a stand because like you stated women had no power or authority so for her to do that is very courageous.

  4. I think this is a big step for woman since in this time you have no voice or what so ever. Mary Warren can be considered as brave like Roxana stated.

  5. At this time, for a woman to stand up for herself was outrageous due to the inequality women had going on during this time. However, Mary Warren has a lot of courage and is very brave for doing this despite the fact women had no authority during those times.

    1. I agree with you because she had so much courage and so much strength in her to stand up to a man that was willing to beat her! And that is something not all women would do back then, usually they would listen and walk away, but she didn't. She took a stand and straight up shared her feelings. She's an outrageous character in this act.

  6. Mary Warren is a very gullible woman, an ignorant adherent of the community, is just another hive minded individual who incites the belief of witchcraft.

  7. Mary Warren is a interesting, but conflicted woman. I like how she stood up to John Proctor, but I feel that she might crumble under the pressures of society and others. I only hope that she helps the right people at the end of the day.

  8. Mary Warren is a very brave but secretive lazy. She has information that could either help others or that could kill her. Although she stood up to John Proctor, she should be careful of the decisions she makes when it comes to saving the others held captive in jail or herself.

  9. This is one of the few instances where women stand up for themselves and that is remarkable especially during that time period
