The Supreme Power of Nature

" Such was the sympathy of Nature- that wild, heathen Nature of the forest, never subjugated by human law, nor illuminated by higher truth....Love whether newly born, or aroused from a deathlike slumber, must always create a sunshine, filling the heart full of radiance, that overflows upon the outward world..... Had the forest still kept its gloom, it would have been bright in Hester's eyes, and bright in Arthur Dimmesdale" ( Hawthorne, 2005, p. 168).

What are your thoughts on Nature and how Humans beings perceive it? Do you think Nature is truly free from the hold of all Human laws?  Does Nature truly show colors of the spirit? Do you think that Nature could alter a persons mood? Do you think Hester and Dimmesdale's problems only truly matter to them and their community, not the World/Nature as a whole? Are our individual problems bigger than Nature? Do they truly affect the World, or our World?

  2. I believe that us Humans take Nature for granted and don't lack appreciation. Like sure, we at least acknowledge that tree in front of our home and hear the birds chirping here and there, however, we do not take the time to absorb the sunshine or enjoy the sunset/sunrise. These small little things that occur on a daily basis can be what creates our individual problems seem as nothing but a small aspect of the whole picture. In other words, if one is having a bad day or has problems, a walk or a hike and just strengthening our affinity with Nature can make a good impact on the individual and even Nature itself. We, ourselves are a part of Nature and have the power to create good or evil. Most of us are at war with ourselves, like Dimmesdale, and are our own prisoners. Nature mends broken souls because it is pure and free, it helps us release what we have been holding on for too long.

    1. I definitely agree. Nature can purify our souls and our lives. It's all around us, yet we don't pay much attention to it or actually appreciate it. Nature can be relaxing and peaceful, which can release some stress or even overlook our problems.

    2. Yeah I agree Reyna, as humans we can be stuck in our own problems and forget the world outside. Humans are a part of nature and have the choice of living their own lives. Sometimes we hold on to our problems and forget that there is a huge world out there. Life is much more than our individual problems, Life is about everything and everyone. Nature does helps mend broken spirits. As humans we are trapped in our own hearts and are not connected to the heart of the world. While we are a part of nature , we view nature as something that we have power over. When we cut down trees and pollute the earth, we don't realize we are harming our planet.

    3. We do often times get too caught up in ourselves and ignore the beauty that is outside our door. I know I do it sometimes but like you said it does have the power to mend broken souls.
