Pearl Refuses Change

" 'Children will not abide any, the slightest, change in the accustomed aspects of things that are daily before their eyes. Pearl misses something which she has always seen me wear.' " (Hawthorne, 2005, p.189).

Just like Pearl, we have all encountered a change that we do not accept. We fear change and are accustomed to being familiar with how things are now. Have you ever experienced a change that you refused to accept or were you ever scared of things not being the way you wanted them to be? Did you feel like that change was a threat?

  1. I can agree Reyna. Humans always fear change at some point in their lives. I have experienced a change that I refused to accept. I have always found that change was some sort of threat but I have to go with it.

  2. I agree Reyna, I have had times where I was afraid of change. Although change can be scary, it can be really good. I have had times, when I was afraid of change, but changing is a part of life. The more we accept change, the happier we will be. Even if our lives change for the worst, we should learn from the change that occurred in our lives.

    3. I completely agree with you Goodness and Reyna, it is true that we do not want change but like you said it is a part of life and we just have to accept it. On many occasions I have gone through this but who hasn't.

  3. I think we all have been faced with situations where we did not want to accept change. For me personally, I refused to accept change and adapt for a really long time. I felt as though accepting change meant i was letting go and moving on and that was something i was not prepared for. But eventually with time, I moved past it. I think that is what happens with most of us. Time heals everything and makes the change easier to deal with.

  4. Brianda Curiel: I can agree with all of you because change is something many of us try to avoid. We have to sacrifice to accept it because we are so accustomed to one thing that we just don't want anything different, just as Pearl with her mother and The Scarlet Letter.09/19/2016

  5. Personally, switching classes every block scares me. Unaware of the classes I have until the day of is quite intimidating, especially if it's not with friends and not one of my strong suits, if it does not meet last blocks expectations, I may feel threatened. It’s almost as if I am attending a whole new school with new classmates.
