  1. I personally find it hard to comment on Dimmesdale's "romanitc" death because I find it ridiculous.

  3. Dimmesdale death was very symbolic. Throughout the last 7 years Dimmesdale lived a life of guilt that was not only hurting him physically but also mentally. He was holding this pain for so long that when he finally did let go his soul was now in peace leading toward his very dramatic death.

  4. I thought his death was ridiculous because he got let off the hook easily. The guilt and pain he went through in those seven years was self-inflicted. Had he admitted to his sin from day one, he wouldn't have gone through what he did and could have possibly avoided his death.
Hester's pain and struggles, on the other hand, came from the townspeople and she eventually learned to overcome them and, thus turned into a stronger person. Dimmesdale never overcame his guilt and pain and it eventually killed him.
The pain that killed him, I feel, could have been avoided had he just admitted to his sin. Yes, he still would have gone through hardships from the townspeople, but he could have overcame them and become a stronger person like Hester did.
