Chapter 16

How do you guys feel about Rose of Sharon's decision to move away from her family and start a new life in California with Connie? Do you guys think that Ma is taking the leading role of the family, opposing to the period of time where the male had the leading authority?

  1. I honestly don't believe Rose of Sharon regrets moving with Connie's family because she, in a way, sees Ma as her own mother. In Ma is taking the leading role, although I do think she still cares about the men's opinion.

  2. I do think that Ma Joad is taking the leading role in the novel and I do not think that Ma will allow her to move away. After all, Ma's motive so far has been to keep the family together.

  3. I feel like Rose and Connies decision should be thought thoroughly. I mean they have other problems to worry about first.
