"She seemed to know, to accept, to
welcome her position, the citadel of the family, the
strong place that could not be taken. And since old
Tom
and the children could not know hurt
or
fear unless she acknowledged hurt
and fear,
she had practiced denying them in herself"
Ma Joad is not like the wives in the previous chapters. She is a rock for the family; a foundation.
Totally, i absolutely fell in love with Ma's character. She represents the families health, and i love that about her, as well as how strong she has to be to carry her family on her own shoulders.
ReplyDeleteI really agree with you on the fact that she is the "foundation" of the whole family. She keeps everything in order and makes sure that everyone is ok. Back then, women weren't thought of as leaders of something and were supposedly only useful for making food. However, Ma has shown that she is a leader and she is so useful in everything that comes her way.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Ma's charachter in how brave and different she is
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting how the kids and family begin look at Ma for direction on what to do and when to take action instead of looking at Pa for that direction. Ma is both the foundation and protection the family needs to stay together.
