The Crucible:Most Interesting Character

In my opinion I think that Abigail is an interesting character. She is very unpredictable; in the first act she ratted out a lot of women in the town saying  they took part in the witchcraft just so she could take off the heat from her and put it on other people. Then we find out in act two that she accused Proctor's wife, Elizabeth, of being out in the forest with them. Abigail did this because she knew that it would cause a conflict between Elizabeth and Proctor, also she did it to get rid of Elizabeth so she could be with Proctor. Who knows what else Abigail will do to get what she wants. What are your thoughts on Abigail? Do you think that she is a horrible, selfish person or is there more to Abigail than how she is seen now?

  1. I believe she is selfish but for own benefit. Would you rather save yourself?

  2. I see what you're saying. I think I wouldn't save myself, so many people died because of Abigail and the other girls. I wouldn't allow that to happen, I'd rather sell myself out than let all those people die.

  3. To me, Abigail is a cruel person. She ruins the repjtation of others and lets them die in order to get what she wants. At the end, she fled the town and escaped any punishment she would have been given.

  4. I believe there is a difference between Abigail, and saving yourself. It was said many times, all that was needed to repent is confess. Even if the courts made you give up names, you could just tell them to confess. I believe there is a way you could save yourself, without sacrificing others. Abigail did not save herself, she comitted second hand murder. By being the reason many people died, even if she wasn't the executioner.

  5. I agree with Karen and Chris. Abigail could have chose to confess and save all of those people from dying but she didn't and she is a cruel person for doing that.
