Tituba

The character I found interesting was Tituba. This is because of her change in character when she was accused of being a witch. When Parris asked her if she was a witch , she at first said no,  but then had to change her answer in order to save herself. She had to confess to the reverend and give him the names of the witches she thought were the ones that harmed Betty. The situation that Tituba was in and how she reacted to it seemed interesting to me because she was a great example of how the majority of the people would react during the late 1600's when being accused. It's a cycle in which everyone accuses one another and continues until one of them (or a group of people) is found guilty and punished.

  1. Tituba seems like she would do whatever it takes to save her life and I don't blame her. Like when she gave up the names of the witches it just seemed like she was lying to save herself.

  2. Patricia, I agree with you. I find her interesting as well since she seems to be relate-able because she, at first, denies everything in order to keep herself from getting in trouble. After a few minutes, she realizes there's no way to avoid being caught so she goes ahead and admits to everything. This is what the majority of us would do

  3. Ya i believed tituba was a very interesting character because she changed from say she didn't talk or know no devil to knowing the devil and seeing him but not having anything to do with him. Then she started to blame people so that she wouldnt be killed abd be taken off the spot.

  5. I actually pitied Tituba. Being a slave she would be the easiest and most likely to blame this on. When Abigail accused her, she really had no choice, than to give up names. Abigail used her, and it was either die with everyone else, or go along with what Abigail was saying. I'm honestly surprised they were more suspicious of her. Since she wasn't born into the Puritan society, and is a slave.
