Now that we have completed reading the Scarlet letter, what are your final thoughts? Do you believe that there should have been a different ending? Why do you think Chillingworth gave his wealth to Pearl in the end?
The book was very good. I really loved reading about Pearl and Hester journey. I loved that Pearl became the wealthiest woman at the end. I really enjoyed the book and the lessons it taught. I will miss reading about little enigmatic Pearl, brawny Hester, Dimmesdale and the leech. The ending of the book, I liked how Dimmesdale released his imprisoned heart.
I liked the book and I liked how it ended. It was good to see that Dimmesdale finally broke his silence about his sin and it was really fun to read about Pearl and what she is up to.
I enjoyed the book as well, however, I was disappointed when we read the end. I was hoping Hester, Pearl, and Dimmesdale would end up moving to another country and starting a new life. Nevertheless, Hawthorne closed the book with a strong message with that ending.
I wanted the the book to end with Dimmesdale, Hester, and Pearl living together and being told how Pearl became a great woman and how Hester and Dimmesdale lived together for the rest of their life. But it was meant to end like that, most likely to keep the reader thinking and creating ideas what happened to Pearl.
Chillingworth most likely gave his wealth to Pearl because he cared for Pearl's future and probably hoping she won't turn out like her mother.
The book was very interesting and the ending was unexpected in my opinion. Although Hester, Pearl, and Dimmesdale didn't leave together as a family, I'm glad that Dimmesdale finally confessed and that Pearl was able to grow up and live a better life.
I enjoyed reading this book. I felt as though it held many truths to life especially on the concepts of vengeance and the matters of the heart. I was not surprised by the ending. I expected some sort of tragedy for Dimmesdale because one of the messages Hawthorne conveyed is that no bad deed goes unpunished and no good deed goes unrewarded. It is definitely a book worth reading.
Brianda Curiel: I really enjoyed the book but I wasn't really satisfied with the ending. I believe they all should've deserved to be together in the end and start a new life together. 09/20/2016
Although, the ending left off on the death of Dimmesdale and Hester, I thought that was the most appropriate ending. It reminded me of the tragic outcome of Romeo and Juliet and how their forbidden love came to an end. I’m glad Pearl had the opportunity to live a fortunate life because as a child she experienced life lessons which other children had not; learning to ignore the scrutiny of society.

Yeah, I'm glad Pearl ended up living a good life but it was tragic that Hester and Dimmesdale didn't get their "happy ending".
