I know that I might get a lot of hate for this post but am I the only one who finds a light in august a little hard to follow? Dont get me wrong the book is wonderful so far. But I just feel that it is all over the place at points. Now I could be wrong but thats just how I feel. What do you think?
I agree but I think Faulkner does that on purpose. It's his style of writing
ReplyDeleteIt is a bit hard to follow at times but as Michaela said it is his writing style & he does it for a reason
ReplyDeleteYes I as well find it hard to follow at times but reading as a class helps my better understand the novel, and well it also makes it confusing because the chapters change from one setting to another .
ReplyDeleteFaulkner's writing is a bit tough to follow, I'll admit. I kind of like it, though. It's a nice change of pace from the more formally written novels we've been reading.
ReplyDeleteThe novel is hard to follow because it jumps from one character or to another setting, but i've kind of noticed that Faulkner hints at what character or what situation that certain chapter focuses on. What helps me to follow the story and better understnd the chapters is to look for hints and use my knowledge of what i already know about the characters because it is kind of hard to follow.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to follow but I like it only because it helps to further explain each characters past and that's intresting
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of a point mr.Poland brought up today. The book is similar to pulp fiction in which a combination of stories are explained jumping from one story to the next that all occur during a similar time frame ultimately foreshadowing a cohesive conclusion, demonstrating strong ties to all the stories and giving further background info that makes everything make sense.
ReplyDeleteFrom: Jessica Yanez - feel like this is a bit hard and confusing at times, but like Mrs. Ross mentioned, this is Faulkner's style. Faulkner like to write like this and he does it on purpose. He likes to confuse the readers which is why he names characters with the same first letter and jumps around in the story by writing about different scenes each chapter.
