I like the character of Mrs.McEachern, I think she was a nice lady that was pretty much passive; however, I also feel terribly bad for her because her husband died and she was left alone. I think that Christmas was a bit selfish, in a way, and harsh with the lady who after all did give him a shelter and food. I also wish we could've learned more about this lady. What do you guys think?
So far by reading the couple of chapters, from my undestanding it seems as if Mrs. Burden helps out people and kids from low resource schools and is a buisness women. This kind of helps with understanding why in the first place she didnt act all scared or offensive when she saw Christmas in her house. What i think of Mrs. Burden is that she is kind and very independent in herself and her occupation helps her out in how to treat and act around Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI liked Mrs. McEachern a lot. I do not believe that her character influenced Christmas; I believe it was mostly Mr. McEachern who influenced him because he resents McEachern but he leaves Mrs. McEachern alone and says she was a good woman. So I believe that's why she was not mentioned as much in the book because she did not help change his character.
ReplyDeleteBeing a female I think I can say I like her character, but I felt bad for her since she had no power or say because of "roles" in society. I would also like to learn more about what happened to her after Christmas left.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Michaela I like Ms. McEachern as well and I too believe the reason why Ms. McEachern isn't mentioned as much in the story is the lack of influence she has towards Christmas character.
ReplyDeleteDuring this time period women were expected to stay at home to do house work and take care of their families. Some people feel bad for Mrs. Mceachern after Christmas has killed Mr. Mceachern because she was depended on him and now he is gone? However I felt worried for Mrs. Mceachern living with her husband because he was very controlling especially towards Christmas. She would try and help Christmas by giving him food to eat while Mr. Mceachern takes him out to the barn to be whipped.
